Malvern Hills at Night

Stay the night in The Malverns and you’ll be delighted with the range of evening entertainment options. Whether you’re watching the sunset, the stars twinkling in the night sky, dining out or attending a live performance at a choice of venues the Malverns provides plenty of opportunities to make the most of summers long hazy evenings.

What better way to enjoy a hearty meal than sitting out on the terrace or in a garden on a warm summer evening? For Italian, Indian, Spanish, traditional pub food and high-end dining: The Malverns has it all. After your meal find that perfect spot on the Malvern Hills to watch the sun go down over the rolling countryside of Herefordshire and the mountains in Wales and gaze into the cosmos at one of our dark Sky Discovery Sites. Or, for a more high energy evening, The Malverns has plenty of venues offering live music, world class theatre, festivals and other entertainment.

Summer Dining

Grab a drink or bite to eat in one of The Malverns Al Fresco establishments. Meet friends under festoon lighting as The Water Cure opens it’s Ibiza style outdoor bar in the summer months serving cocktails, hosting live music and street food pop ups.

Choose a seat outdoors at Great Malvern’s Bar Limon, their terrace is a sun trap and will have you feeling like your holiday has really begun as you dine on Mediterranean tapas dishes and sip cooling cocktails. Take in great views over the Severn Plain from FAUN as they host their simple suppers every Wednesday and Friday – with outdoor seating shaded by sail covers and greenery.

Upton upon Severn has riverside dining and refreshments available overlooking the River Severn at The Boathouse, where excellent tapas dishes and a great selection of gins are often accompanied by spectacular sunsets viewed from its veranda and terrace. Just along the riverside The Swan Hotel boasts great pup grub as well as plenty of lovely riverside seating.

Tenbury Wells in the north of the district has a choice of eateries including Unwined Bistro, winner of the LUXlife award for Most Vibrant Tapas Bar 2023. Outside the town centre you can visit Pensons – our Michelin Star and Michelin Green Star restaurant with fine dining in a rustic setting serving home-reared and home-grown food from the Netherwood Country Estate and their kitchen garden. Sit out in their lovely courtyard, in view of the restored barns and kitchen garden, for a summer evening feast.

Spending an evening watching the sun go down from atop the Malvern Hills is a must for your trip. Read our blog on the best views to find the ideal spot to watch this cosmic show.

In the unpredictability of the modern world, take a second to pause and take in the constant beauty of our universe. We are proud to be home to not one, but two official Dark Sky Discovery Sites – Golden Valley in Castlemorton and in Mathon. In these particular spots, when the sky is clear, the Milky Way can be seen with the naked eye.

Bars, Music and Entertainment

Our local scene is second to none; with live music and theatre at Elmslie House, Malvern Cube, The Regal at Tenbury Wells, Coach House Theatre and West Malvern Social Club.

Head to the OCC in Great Malvern for a cosy sports pub as well as comedy nights, DJ’s and live music. After a recent refurbishment this stylish venue has a covered outdoor area with festoon lighting for making the most of summer evenings.

Another friendly venue is Weavers – also boasting a sun trap back garden as well as regular quizzes and complementary Sunday night cheese board.

Malvern Lounge might take the prize for the best garden view in Great Malvern as it’s outdoor space looks over Great Malvern Priory making a dramatic backdrop to your evening – as well as a great margarita.

In Upton upon Severn Bar Severn and Mojito’s are great places to spend an evening. As well as woodfired pizzas Mojito’s offers cocktails and, as you might have guessed, a great selection of rum and 7 different types of Mojito.

From rock music to jazz to arthouse cinema and comedy, there will always be a stunning celebration of culture for you to indulge in on a visit to The Malverns. Find out what’s on here.

If that isn’t enticing enough, Malvern Theatres are putting on an incredible range of performances with many from the West End circuit; you definitely won’t want to miss a single one.

Stay the Night

When the night has met its end, why not wind up at one of our many hotels, B&B’s, camp sites or self-catering accommodation.
