Event Description
A new art exhibition at Malvern Library.
An Artificial Silence
Oil paintings by Carolyn Blake
at The Gallery Cafe, Malvern Library
1 July – 26 August, 2023
Looking at the contrast between the manmade and the natural landscape, Carolyn’s work explores the insignificant in the everyday, focusing on the poetic elements giving the unremarkable a presence, often acknowledging hints of humanity without the need to include the figure.
During the last year, Carolyn has been referencing ‘The Rings of Saturn’ by W. G. Sebald for her painting titles. Matching the extracts with the paintings has enhanced and added a mystery to the compositions. The extracts have encouraged her to think beyond the initial captured landscape and work gradually towards a new invention within the compositions.
