Event Description

Serlina Boyd defied the doubters when she launched ‘Cocoa Girl’ and ‘Cocoa Boy’, which have attracted more than a million readers. Come and hear how she overcame ‘sabotage’, tackled a deep-rooted problem and inspires the younger generation.

Serlina Boyd was inspired by her 6 years old daughter to launch Cocoa Girl, the UK’s first magazine to celebrate Black girls. It received universal acclaim during the first lockdown of 2020, and Serlina made many television and radio appearances. Cocoa Boy magazine launched shortly afterwards. Serlina believes strongly in giving Black children a voice, by educating them about Black culture and Black role models in a fun and engaging way. Now she plans to launch the UK’s first Black journalism school.
