The 31-mile Worcestershire Way is a diverse and attractive route covering a wide variety of landscapes and terrains. Riverside walking, hill climbs and diverse woodlands all feature. Even over 3 days it is a challenge.
Day 1: 10 miles
We start on the River Severn, in the beautiful Georgian town of Bewdley, once home of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin. We follow, closely at times, the highly popular Severn Valley steam railway. We continue on a varied, scenic and undulating route to Ribbesford; the route then heads to Heightington before passing through woodland on narrow winding lanes down to Abberley Hill.
Day 2: 10 miles
Day 2 takes us past the 19th century Italianate mansion of Abberley Hall, and the magnificent, prominent Abberley clock tower. We climb steeply to Woodbury Hill Fort and continue high above the River Teme on a long ridge, eventually descending to a highly scenic riverside section. From near Martley we climb Ankerdine Hill and walk on to the hamlet of Knightwick, nestling in the Teme Valley.
Day 3: 11 miles
We cross the Teme, and continue in picturesque and varied countryside, through the Suckley Hills to pretty Longley Green. With the Malvern Hills now close, we walk through mixed farmland, including large apple orchards. Finally, we climb steeply to the main Malverns Hills ridge and enjoy views of much of our walk. We drop steeply to the finish in Malvern.
There are several ascents and descents and stiles to negotiate
Bring a packed lunch for each day.
